Adam breaks Aussie Record

Adam McLlaughlin shattered the British Aussie round record at the Iron Person event in September 2005. His score of 85 points beat the previous highest score by 6 points. This score is an exceptional achievement and brings the British record up to a truly international standing.

Adam achieved the record with a self made DeVe copy made from 4mm paxolin. As with so many boomerangs that turn out good in the end, the boomerang was destined for the bin when he returned from the World Championships. He decided to give the boomerang one more chance and changed the airofoil to allow a faster spin, and hey presto he had a well behaved boom.

Adam was typically modest suggesting that he had a lot of luck. The rest of the BBS are wondering whether he was also lucky when he broke the MTA record and keeps winning the long distance trophys.

See description of competition events.

Dec 2003 -Mark Holman-Lisney and Martin Laslett are Top BBS Throwers for 2003

Jay Butters was the winner at Birmingham in May, and Mark Holman-Lisney romped all over the field to walk away with the honours at Trefriw.  Martin won Shrewsbury and the Birmingham Iron Man.  Adam McLaughlin was, once again, the king of Long Distance.

Sept 2002 Mark Holman Lisney Wins Iron Man Tournament

The rugged captain of the British World Cup team (The British Loins) was a triumphant victor of the one day, 6 event tourno is at Pickwick Fields, Birmingham. Mark saw of all competitors in a tough event that suited his style. The other Loins trailed in behind the leader of their pack - Martin Laslett 2nd and Andi Furnace 3rd. Full results are here. The BBS thrwoing season ends with Martin Laslett as the no.1 British thrower, knocking the now disabled thrower, and close neighbour, Jim Millar , off the top spot. British records and rankings are now available here

August 2002 Oli Thienhouse Wins Trefriw Tourno - again! and Adam McLaughlin wins LD

Oliver Theinhouse

Trefriw was, once again, a fantastic tourno enjoyed by all but won by Oli Thienhouse from Germany. Long Distance was won by Adam McLaughlin (UK). A bit of rain delayed the first day but not for long. The British MTA 100 record was broken twice - first by Mark Holman-Lisney, then as the time (39.73 secs)was being recorded, Adam Macs 'Sensor' from Georgi Dimanchev composite factory, was floating down for a time of 44.18 secs. Mark still holds the record for the shorest time a record has been held (14.23 seconds). Martin Laslett was 2nd and Horst Faika was 3rd. Results (no LD yet) Sadly Jim Millar twisted his knee, but is making a full recovery to his former glory

August 2002 BBS Teams throw in the Boomerang World Cup

The BBS has taken part with two teams in the Boomerang World Cup Teams. The Celtic Dragons and The British Loins were the BBS representatives in the Boomerang World Cup held in Kiel, Germany in July / August 2002. Click Here for details of the teams
All the throwers had a great time and aquited them selves with honour, and of course, integrity. The Loins came 13th and The Dragons came 19th out of 24 teams - not bad for our first ever team presence. Thanks to American thrower, Mike 'the Monkey Nurse' Krausser, who joined the Dragons. The BBS would like to thank their German friends for organising a great event and congratulate the American Dogs of Boom on their victory. We did not take part in the indiviual classification, which meant that Swiss thrower Manuel Schuetz was the winner of that. Congrautlations to Manuel, too! Results are on The Official Boomerang World Cup Site Live page http://www.boomerang2002.com/index.php?2

The Loins look fierce ...

July 2002 Top Thrower's Boomerangs Stolen

The priceless boomerang collection of top British competitor - Flo West were stolen from his flat on July 23rd. This puts his world cup hopes in serious jepardy. Please help by sending him some boomerangs or information if you see any boomerangs being thrown suspiciously in the Leicester area

June 2002 Shrewsbury Tourno Sees New Heights in Competitive Spirit

Strong winds and a low turnout did not stop the keen BBS throwers 'chomping at the bit' for some hard throwing action. In the end the result was nail bitingly close with Martin Laslett taking his second podium position of the season to actually win it. Coming dangerously close in behind him were other hopefuls for the World Cup - Sean Slade (veteran) in second place and Mark Lisney in third - with only 1 point separating 1st, 2nd and 3rd. We can safely assume, however that if Lorenz Gubler had turned he would have won. Full results are given here for throwers who did 'regular rules' for the whole tourno

May 2002 Lorenz wins Boomingham Tourno May 4th and 5th

Lorenz Gubler won Birmingham Boom Bash for the second time in succession, in pleasant throwing conditions that saw some good scores and Lawrence West edge the British accuracy record a point closer to the magic 50, notching up a well practiced 46. Martin Laslett came second and Jens (The Great Dane) was third.
Our thanks to the local chippy for the debut of hot catering on the field, and the lovely boom babes Deb and Lisa for off the field delights
The full break down of results is here

Throwers left to Right, Rob Butters, Jay Butters, Mark Harris, Lorenz Gubler, Jack Butters, Jens and son, Noam Krabbe, Adam McLaughlin, Willie Watts, Mark Holman-Lisney, Jim Millar, Rus Jones, Andy Furness, Rob , Lawrence west, Martin Laslett. On the floor: Sean Slade

Spring 2002 Bomber Harris Blasts Bull and Takes the Ashes

Mark 'Bomber' Harris came up for a throw in Birmingham and blasted the bull to bits in the longest session of 'Battle For The Ashes' that has ever taken place. The 'Cup' / 'Ashes' changed hands many times during a long afternoon, but in the end they were firmly in Bomber's hands and no amount of re-matches and rule variations could dislodge the prize from his all catching hands.

Trefriw August 2001 was an 'Absoloute Blast!'

This year's Trefriw was the biggest and best ever!

The three day boomerang festival in North Wales had a record number of throwers, from home and abroad, and was won by German thrower, Oli Thienhouse. A full list of results is here . Oli also set what is thought to be a new MTA unlimmited record for Germany of 133.45 seconds

Jim Millar was the top British thrower , coming in 3rd place, after Oliver Rau. Jim also beat the endurance record, so he now has two British records, and at the end of the season ranks first place in Britain, beating Flo West (ranking 2nd) and Martin Laslett (ranking 3rd) For the current rankings and records, click here
Andy Furniss broke the Btritish MTA unlimitted record 75.41 seconds yet sadly 'The great come back tour', never materialsed - but wait til next year, right Andy?
Flo set another record for the cameras, this time by making and throwing a boomerang in the shortest time for BBC Record Breakers. With power tools blazing the current World Indoor record holder, notched up another record by cutting, carving, chucking and catching a rang in just 1 minute, 9 seconds!
Lisa Killelay won the "encouragement rules" tournament, narrowly beating new comers Ian McKinnon and Mark (Magic) Leivers into 2nd and 3rd places thanks to a spot on accuracy score of 50 (equivlent to 40 in regular rules!).
The Swiss are surely the Kings of Long Distance, and Markus Peyssard kept up the tradition with a victory in the event on Monday - 128metres. Fellow Swiss, Lorenz 2nd place (115m) and Brit Adam 3rd (114m) Scores for ld Once again, our thanks to Gill and Jat Butters for all their hospitality and making the event so very special

Lorenz Wins, and distance record is smashed by Rob Butters and Matt McLaughlin Shrewsbury - June 2001

Lorenz Gubler victory tour of the UK romps on - this time at Shrewsbury, winning Long Distance and the 6 event Tourno. Old hands Sean Slade and Jay came second and third in the 6 event tourno, but the big news was big distance.

Rob Butters first throw smashed threw the 105m former record of Gordon Shuttleworth, and sailed out to a MASSIVE 116 metres. Not bad for a lad of 14 years! But his record didn't last long in the adult catagory, as within minutes Matt MacLaughlin shattered it again for a new record of 125 M. BeAGGRESIVE Swiss Lond Distance expert Lorenz didn't have much trouble beating them both - 130m I think! I think its about time we recorded a new record - viz Junior distance with Rob's score the first one on the list
The 100m + club also had a few other members - Adam MacLaughlin, Martin Laslett, joined Mark Lisney (last year).

Gill Butters Wins Wanroij Ladies - June 2001

It was seriously blowing a gale in Holland and chucking it down with rain, but Jill Butters didn't let it blow her away - and came first place in the womens results. The overall tourno was won by German, Alex Opri, with the highest Brit being old safe hands himself - Jim Millar. Unfortunately Mark Lisney slipped in a heroic dive to catch his MTA and injured his shoulder so badly that he went home.

The Dutch event was the 'climax' of the first BOOMCAMP - but the preceeding week was so enjoyable that some competitors climaxed a little early - helped by the beautiful weather

Lorenz Wins Birmingham - May 2001

Lorenz Gubler beat Mark Lisney into 2nd place, and Jim Milar into 3rd by a narrow margin, to start off his British Season. Blustery and cold winds held the scores down in general, but the marquee was was a great success. Our thanks to Jim Millar, Lisa Killaly, Rus and Angela Jones and Deb Laslett for providing the organisation and hospitallity. In the photo below are some new faces - on the far right are Lesley and Dennis - welcome to the BBS. Click here for results

October - 2000 Roger Perry Buys RANGS

Rangs Boomerangs of Australia have recently been acquired by Roger Perry, the owner of Spinback boomerangs and a keen competitive thrower. Roger now owns what is probably the World's largest factory for what we would call 'real' boomerangs.

October 2000 - Mark Lisney Ranks Number 1

The British Rankings have been calculated and Mark is our number one thrower, based on his performance in the UK and abroad. Martin Laslett was second place. Sean Slade ranked 3rd despite what he called 'a bad year'and no overseas throwing. Is there no stopping the old dog?

August 2000 - Trefriw 2000

Martin Laslett romped home to a glorious victory at the presitigious Trefriw Boomerang Festival, which was once again hosted by the magnificent Jill and Jay Butters. The BBS again thanks them for organising such a fab tourno and providing a great event all round. Mark Lisney took home the Herb Smith Memorial Distance Trophy for theLongest throw by a British thrower this year (101m at Shrewsbury), even though Adam McLoughlin won the distance at Trefriw with a huge 97m. The swarthy hunk Lisney even broke the British fast catch record as well with 24.13 seconds , so all in all a good tourno for the newly wed wanger

May 2000 - Boomingham Boys Triumphant - Again!

Jim Millar took first place and paunchy raunchy neighbour Martin Laslett achieved second place at the 2000 Birmingham Tournament. Mark Lisney drew for points at second place, but had no first positions.

Medium strength but changeable winds suppressed the breaking of any records. Full write in BBS mag

March 2000 - Russ Actually Makes Ran

Rising Boom Star Russel Jones was all set to start making boomerangs with a fully equipped cellar and a new sheet of aviation ply, but now he has actually done it and made not one bou two boomerangs, including one good one that he has already used to notch up points in competition

September 1999 - Bart Simpson Launches Rang Cheese

Yes its true, loveable cartoon rouge Bart Simpson has lunched his own 'Barterang' as a premotion on the back The Dairylea Lunchables Fun Pack.

But is it any good ? Hold on I'll cut it out and try it. Yes I have to say it is pretty good, but works better if thrown with lots of spin by hand, rather than launched with a ruler flick as shown below.

So go out and buy a Dairylea Fun Pack and give it a go, cheese lovers.
